Right off the bat I want to thank all of you out there who asked for my resume and tried to hook me up with jobs. It means a lot to me that so many of you out there thought I was a decent enough worker that you were willing to recommend me. And thankfully enough none of your efforts panned out, because if they did I woulda been stuck either accepting a job I didn’t really want or looking like a complete ingrate and turning down an offer. But it’s the thought that counts and I appreciate it.
So you may be asking yourself “Self, why would a got who has no job be stuck accepting an offer or be dumb enough to turn an offer down.” That’s a good question and, ironically enough, a question I’m about to answer.
You see, over the last couple of weeks I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about what my ideal job would be. I was crushed to learn that American Standard doesn’t really do the kind of testing I would be ideal for, so I moved on to thinking what my main priorities were.
Anyone who knows me hopefully knows that my kids are #1 and #2 and #3 for me. So I needed to find a job that would allow me the flexibility to be there when my kids needed me. And between school and play-dates and various activities like dance classes, Daisy Scouts, swim classes, and karate classes (hoping to start the last 2 soon), that means I was looking for something that was less than 9 to 5. Now logistically speaking that rules out NYC completely. So I was going to be looking for something in Jersey and as close to home as possible.
My second priority for a job was to avoid all the office politics / bullshit that killed things at my previous employer. So office jobs were now off the table. The picture started getting a little clearer. Obviously I’d like to make a decent amount of money. So I threw that into the mix.
When I added it all up I realized that I needed to get back into Real Estate. I’ve been licensed since 2007 and worked at it part-time for about a year and a half. At the time it was a pain in the ass…mostly because, after my day job, I really wasn’t left with a whole lot of extra time for my family. But now I don’t have a day job to worry about which means 2 things: (1) I’ll be able to do it full-time and not just try to squeeze it in when I can; and (2) I don’t have a safety net anymore so really have to give it 100%.
I’m happy to report that I’ve accepted a position with Coldwell Banker Franklin Realty (which is the name for the Coldwell Banker office here in Nutley, which is right across the street from the Franklin SteakHouse). The office is a 6 minute walk from my home and the people I’ve met so far seem really nice and helpful. They didn’t really give me a lot of time to ease into it. I’m actually doing an Open House tomorrow (Sunday, March 14th). So if you’re in the area please feel free to swing by 1102 Hamilton St., Belleville. This is a 2 bedroom and 3 bathroom townhouse in the Essex Park complex – right across the street from the Hendricks Field Golf Course on Franklin Ave.
